"Preaching the Psalms" Seminar with Rev Canon Dr Jill Firth

  • St. Francis Theological College 233 Milton Rd MILTON Australia (map)

Learn skills and approaches to preaching the Psalms in these interactive workshops on Psalms 1, 2 and 3.

  • Walking the Talk (Psalm 1)
  • Worshipping the King (Psalm 2)
  • Waiting on God (Psalm 3)

Psalm 1 invites us to delight in God's instruction, and Psalm 2 invites obedience to God's king. Psalms 1 and 2 are recognised as providing a gateway to the Book of Psalms, and Psalm 3 introduces the Psalter's common theme of trust in suffering and danger. These psalms form a helpful introduction to the themes and prayers of the Book of Psalms.

The Reverend Canon Dr Jill Firth was born in Melbourne, went to school in Sydney, and completed university in Perth. With her husband Len she has ministered in Perth, the WA wheat belt, on Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, and in Hong Kong. She was ordained in 2008 and is a Canon of St. Paul's Cathedral, Melbourne. Jill is trained as a spiritual director in the Ignatian tradition and completed doctoral research was on the lament psalms. Jill is a member of the Ridley College faculty where she lectures in Hebrew and Old Testament.

This promises to be a wonderful event in learning vital skills and approaches to congregational preaching and is recommended for students, Ministers and lay people with an interest in sharing God's word.
