Engaging Community with Revd Peter Palmer

Peter has had extensive ministry experience in many communities across Australia.

Peter and his wife Joy’s first stop was Wyndham-Oombulgurri in the Kimberleys, where they represented Christ at a challenging time, as the former Forrest River Mission moved towards shutting down and the residents moved into nearby towns. Next, they went underground and served at the Catacomb Church in Coober Pedy. Building on contacts made at Coober Pedy, they then pioneered an innovative Fly-in-Fly-out Mine Chaplaincy ministry. They continued to care for workers and ex-workers even as the downturn saw mine closures and cutbacks. Peter has been Rector at St George’s Beenleigh since 2016 and continues his connection with Bush Church Aid. Peter has been married to Joy since 1981 and has 2 adult children.

The constant across their varied locations has been the Palmers’ commitment to connecting with people outside the church in the name of Christ.
