The guest speaker at the 2021 Mathew Hale Public Library dinner was Dr Natasha Moore speaking on the topic of How do things change?
Political deadlock, culture wars, not-so-civil disagreement: there’s a lot of unease right now about where we’re headed, and what Christian faith has to contribute to Australian society. Looking back on some highs and lows of 2000 years of Christian influence, Dr Natasha Moore from the Centre for Public Christianity reflected on how big ideas, influential individuals, and grassroots movements inspired by Jesus have changed our world. The church certainly hasn’t always lived up to its calling – but what can ordinary followers of Jesus hope to achieve, in the mess of our own times and our own lives?
Natasha is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Public Christianity (CPX). She has a PhD in English Literature from the University of Cambridge and is the author of For the Love of God: How the church is better and worse than you ever imagined, based on CPX’s documentary of the same title. She has written for the media on topics that include books, movies, politics, food, domestic violence, Scripture in schools, war, Thanksgiving, death, taxes, and freedom of speech.
